Designer: Garth Cook - Absolut Creative Award 2009
Garth Cook͛s designs are the perfect merging of soft femininity and defined contemporary edge. Distinguished by his use of high quality, luxe fabrics in the creation of his masterfully constructed designs. Cook͛s focus on beautiful form and finish has lead Vogue Australia to describe his work as ͞striking an unusual balance between opulence and wearability͟. Garths first, and one of the most important runway experiences was at Style Aid ͞WOW͟ in 2009. After having volunteered with Style aid as a student, Garths aim was to show a collection at the prestigious event. In 2009, Garths conceptual fashion collection ͞Hieronymus͟ was selected to show along with other emerging and established West Australian designers. 2009 was an important year for Style Aid and for Emerging Designers. It was the first year of The Style Aid x Zomp Emerging Designer Award. This award included a cash prize of $5000 along with mentorship from local industry professionals. Garth was fortunate enough to win the inaugural award. The proceeds of the prize were invested into Garths first season for Winter 2009. This collection, was featured in Oyster magazine, and in turn, was stocked through a small handful of high-end boutiques throughout Australia.
Since STYLEAID 2009 Garth has shown collections within the Style Aid schedule along with Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia, Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival and Telstra Perth Fashion Festival. In 2014 Garth was nominated and participated in The International Woolmark Prize and is to date the only West Australian brand to be nominated.
